We are delighted to announce that HRH Prince William has agreed to become the Patron of Mountain Rescue (England & Wales), our national body.
This has particular significance for us as the Prince may well one day become Duke of Cornwall. We hope that His Royal Highness, who recently undertook work experience with an RAF Mountain Rescue Team, will take the opportunity to join the Cornwall Team on a training session or even a callout. Although we have no mountains in Cornwall, we are confident he will recognise some similarity in the equipment and skills we use. Read Press Article Wednesday, May 23. 20072007 CSRT Pub Challenge

Cornwall Search & Rescue Team is pleased to offer its support to the 2007 Hard Rock Challenge Team. Hard Rock - by Ken Wilson - was first published in 1974 and provides an inspirational account of 60 of the finest and hardest rock climbs in Britain.
They entail 22,000ft of climbing, 180 miles of walk-ins, 4 ferry crossings and 3000 miles of driving! Only two climbers are known to have climbed every route, and both took 10 years to do it. Mark Stevenson and Rich Mayfield will attempt to climb every route in 5 weeks this summer as the ultimate Hard Rock Challenge! We look forward to welcoming them to Cornwall, probably in mid August, where they will complete the final few climbs. They are aiming to raise £30,000 for British Mountain Rescue. If you want to support them, and follow their progress, visit their site. Hard Rock Challenge 2007 Sunday, May 20. 2007Charity Walk
14 team members provided rescue cover for the St Michaels Way Walk, an annual event organised by our friends from Mounts Bay Rotary Club. The sun shone throughout but with a cool breeze, conditions were ideal and a good time was had by all. We stationed teams at key points; Knills Monument, Trencrom Hill and a ford crossing towards the end of the 12 mile course but they had nothing to do other than observe as the walkers passed by. Just the way we like it!
There was a brief flurry of activity when Controllers were paged by Devon & Cornwall Police for a possible search in St Austell but that was quickly resolved before deployment. And if the Team Leader was loking a little tired, he could be forgiven having travelled all the way to Wales and back for the Mountain Rescue (England & Wales) AGM and Business Meeting the previous day. It's always good to meet up with colleagues from other teams and keep up with the latest developments in MR. Wednesday, May 16. 2007A Busy Week
Today, a few team members have been out and about on Bodmin Moor at one of the 'Rambles' organised by Caradon District Council and supported by Radio Cornwall.
We are on hand to assist should there be any need for our services. On this occasion, other than evacuating one walker from the moor who decided the conditions (drizzle and mist) were too much for her - we had nothing to do other than enjoy the walk which set out from Colliford Lake and took in the village and Church at Temple. It also gave us a chance to put our new team clothing through its paces. Thanks to monies raised from a variety of sources, we have been able to purchase new Keela kit for the team. This includes a jacket, soft shell, micro-fleece, water-proof trousers and salopettes for each team member. Our new team colour is red and the Jackets and Soft Shells are emblazoned with the Moutain Rescue Logo & team name. We hope to have some pics on the site within a week but today's trial went very well - the kit coped admirably against the moorland weather. You can see our new kit for yourself this weekend as team members will be out and about at the St Michaels Way Walk - an annual event which we have supported for several years now. Organised by Mounts Bay Rotary Club to raise money for local charities and taking place on Sunday 20th May, the walk follows an ancient coast-to-coast pilgrims route from St Erth on the North coast to Marazion (overlooking St Michaels Mount) on the south coast. Whatever the weather has in store, we will be ready! Friday, May 11. 2007Bodmin Ten Tors
Well, the first of our Standby Rescue Cover's this month passed with nothing more than some blisters and a lower leg cramp to deal with.
This event is always a favourite with our team mebers, several of whom walk the route alongside the competitors. You can read a press article about it from the Cornish Guardian: http://www.thisiscornwall.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=144143&command;=displayContent&sourceNode;=144131&contentPK;=17268281&moduleName;=InternalSearch&formname;=sidebarsearch This weekend is Dartmoor Ten Tors and next week you can catch us at the Moorland Ramble organised by Caradon District Council with BBC Radio Cornwall. Potential walkers need to be at Colliford Lake Car Park for 10am. Monday, May 7. 2007May Update
Welcome to our new look news page, we hope you like it. It will give us the opportunity to provide more regular updates on the team’s activity.
May is a busy time for the team as we have a number of regular commitments for Standby Rescue Cover. The first is on Sunday 6th May when we will be attending the Annual Bodmin Ten Tors event. A week ahead of its more famous neighbour, the Dartmoor Ten Tors, the Cornish version is organised by Bodmin Lions and has been running for over 25 years. Both vehicles and a team contingent will be on hand to assist with any incidents which may occur although the organisers are very experienced and the event well run. The following weekend is Dartmoor Ten Tors and although we don’t have a great deal to do with it, a couple of our team members will be acting as navigators for SARDA Handlers. Sunday May 20th will see us at the St Michaels Way Walk which runs from Coast to Coast (St Erth – Marazion) via Carbis Bay, Knills Monument and Trencrom. Another regular event which is well organised, this time by The Mounts Bay Rotary Club, our members provide rescue cover should it be required. On top of all this, there is training, callouts and fund raising to be done and the National MR Meeting in N Wales. |
