[23] SEARCH – Porthleven, 05/06/2019 12:37 hrs

The team was called our to assist in the search for a dog-walker missing in the Porthleven area. As the first team members were arriving at the RV we received the sad news that the police had located a body close to Penrose. Due to the remote location we were requested to stand by and nine team members then used our Bell stretcher to carry the body out to the roadside.

Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the deceased at this difficult time.

[22] SEARCH – Polperro, 29/05/2019 18:28 hrs

The fourth call-out of the day came for a missing despondent female in the Looe area who had last been seen at 1130 hours that morning. The team was tasked by the police to search inland areas, assisted by HM Coastguard teams who were covering the coastal areas. Around two hours after the initial call out, the team was stood down after the missing person was located by the police.

[21] SEARCH - Truro, 29/05/2019 12:10 hrs

Whilst the team were still responding to the previous call out, the team received another tasking to assist Devon & Cornwall Police to search for a despondent male missing from RCHT Treliske. Team members quickly fanned out from the hospital grounds into fields, woodland and the local golf course. Three foot teams and a Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England dog team searched for five hours before being stood down pending further investigation. We’re glad to report that the male has since been located and is in the care of the relevant healthcare providers.

[20] RESCUE – Halvasso, 29/05/2019 11:32 hrs

Early afternoon on Wednesday team controllers were alerted to two jobs in quick succession. The first came via South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust seeking assistance to extract a patient from woodland near Halvasso. A 31 year old male had suffered an injury after falling in woodland and the ambulance service required assistance in getting him safely extracted and carried to the roadhead.

As an ambulance crew arrived at the scene they realised the patient was closer to the road than they thought and they stood down the team

[19] SEARCH – Falmouth, 28/05/2019 22:42 hrs

Late Tuesday evening, the team were called out to join a large multi-agency search for a missing 84 year old male in Falmouth. Three foot teams joined assets from Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team, Porthoustock Coastguard Rescue Team and Porthleven Coastguard Team to search large areas of the town, both inland and along the coast, whilst Falmouth Lifeboat covered various tidal creeks. The search continued 4am Wednesday morning and thankfully the missing male was located later that day in Penryn, alive if rather hypothermic and we wish him and his family all the best.

[18] RESCUE - Stowe’s Hill, Bodmin Moor, 18/04/2019 19:33 hrs

Members of the east section were diverted from training at Golitha Falls to an urgent report from Devon and Cornwall Police of an unresponsive male runner on the moor somewhere between Golddiggings and Cheesewring, having been located by a member of the public.

Eight team members and Mobile 2 were dispatched with full medical kit, locating him and the reporting person on the western side of Stowe’s Hill. The team also accompanied the police and SWAST paramedic.

Sadly, the male was pronounced deceased at the scene, and members then stretchered him to our team vehicle before travelling back to Minions where we met with the ambulance.

Our thoughts go to the gentleman’s friends and family at this sad time.

[17] MINE INCIDENT - near Chacewater, 18/04/2019 18:14 hours

Devon and Cornwall Police contacted the team to ask for their assistance in checking a mineshaft which had just opened up in an area of old mine workings between Scorrier and Chacewater. The police were concerned due to the proximity of the hole to local public areas.

Team members used rope access equipment to inspect the mineshaft and provide suitable advice to the police and landowner.

[15] SEARCH – Newquay, 16/04/2019 00:37 hours

Just after midnight last night the team were contacted by Devon & Cornwall Police to assist in the search for a 29-year-old male reported missing in the Newquay area. Alongside Newquay Coastguard, Padstow Coastguard and both boats from RNLI Newquay, large areas of the clifftop, golf course and shoreline were searched until the early hours of the morning. With no sign of the missing male, all resources stood down at 5am.

The missing person was later located safe and well through police enquiries outside of the search area.

[12] SEARCH – Lostwithiel, 17/03/2019 21:43 hours

At 9.43pm on Sunday the team were called to assist Devon & Cornwall Police in the search for man in the Restormel Castle area of Lostwithiel. The team deployed and searches were conducted in the area well into the early morning hours.

The team resumed searching on Monday morning alongside elements of Devon & Cornwall Police and Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service .

At 1312 hours, the team air scenting search dog Izzy and handler located the male within our search area sadly deceased.

After the formal procedures were conducted, the casualty was stretchered back to a waiting team vehicle. The team were stood down at 7.45pm.

The team extend our sincere sympathies to the deceased gentleman’s family and friends at what must be an extremely difficult time.

[11] RESCUE - Hawk’s Tor, North Hill, Bodmin Moor, 23/02/2019 13:56 hours

Just as we were putting the vehicles and equipment away from the animal rescue at The Cheesewring, the team was called out again to assist South Western Ambulance Service with the rescue of a 14 year old female who was participating in a Ten Tors training session. She had fallen on steep and difficult ground resulting in a very painful dislocated right knee.

Members of the East Section of CSRT went to her assistance, utilising the team Land Rover to get as close to the casualty site and then continuing the rest of the way on foot. After being stabilised by the team, she was provided with pain relief and stretchered to Rescue 924 search and rescue helicopter from Newquay which had landed at the bottom of the hill for onward transport to Derriford Hospital.

We wish her a speedy recovery.

[10] ANIMAL RESCUE – Cheesewring Quarry, Minions, Bodmin Moor, 23/02/2019 11:00 hrs

The team had been contacted about a sheep which had been stuck on a ledge since the middle of the week having been chased there by an out of control dog. Unable to escape the ledge, and with a 40 foot drop below it to boulders, a small team assembled to rescue it by lowering a team member down to its location. Once secured, the sheep was lifted off the ledge with the assistance of a safety rope and released back on to the moorland after a quick check over.
